Alexander Aviv

I was born in Bukhara (Uzbekistan) in 1977. When I was two years old, my family and I emigrated to Israel. Since 2007 I live in Switzerland. I studied piano at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv. I graduated with the Master of Music and the teaching diploma in 2004.

I have many years of teaching experience, such as the International School of Zug and Lucerne and Sprungbrett Montessori School as well as a private piano teacher in Zurich.

As a professional pianist, I regularly perform in different formations at various musical events. In 2009, I founded the “Tzabar” choir for adults in Zurich. The choir, for which I conduct and create its musical arrangements, focuses on Israeli music. Since 2017, I also conduct the children`s choir of the “Sprungbrett” Montessori school.

The music styles I cover include classical music, pop and Klezmer. In addition to my work as an active professional musician, I also have also been organizing music festivals and concerts since 2015.

Playing the piano affects the whole person positively and enriches in many ways. The memory is getting trained and it increases the ability to concentrate. Music is food for the soul.

I have many years of experience as a piano teacher at the International School as well as private piano teacher. I give piano lessons for beginners and advanced students in German, English and Hebrew. For children I recommend to start with piano lesson already at age 5. On request, I prepare students for the international piano and theory examinations (ABRSM).

Through my classical background, I provide a profound piano technique. In addition to piano learning, basic principles such as theory, reading and writing notes, hearing, rhythm and harmonics are also essential elements of my piano lessons. Of course, it is also particularly important for me to be able to respond to your personal musical interests and goals individually. In this way, you will learn how to play well known pieces according to your personal preference whether it’s Classical music, jazz, pop, musical or blues.

My Teaching philosophy

To bring my students not just the actual playing but to understand the music and the self-expression behind the notes and its effect on intellectual and spiritual level.

Through teaching I bring my students into self-observing their own capacity of dealing with new complex skills.

I work with my students to identify their strengths and weaknesses and help them to get closer to their goals. I find it very important to provide honest and constructive feedback and to bring them forward.
